After a google search on common ways to speed up your Pi I accumulated the following list of improvement methods:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ensure you have the right type of SD card for the load, SDHD is good<\/li>\n<li>Make sure you are getting the most out of you SD card by maximizing the partition. (I explained how to do this in this post)<\/li>\n<li>Kill X applications, or the GUIs such as the desktop (In my case, I want the GUI so that\u2019s not going to happen)<\/li>\n<li>Use insserv \u2013r to remove unwanted startup or init scripts<\/li>\n<li>Overclock the sucker!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Overclocking<\/b><\/p>\n<p>According to <a title=\"Overclocking\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Overclocking\" target=\"_blank\">Wikipedia<\/a>, &#8220;&#8230;overclocking is the process of making a computer or component operate faster than the clock frequency specified by the manufacturer by modifying system parameters.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>WARNING: Before overclocking your Pi be warned that power consumption may increase. You should be using a quality power supply, such as a wall adapter. Also, your Pi may emit quite a bit of heat depending on how high you clock it. It would be wise to consider a fan or something to regulate the temperature of the device.<\/p>\n<p>I followed the tutorial <a title=\"Not Enough Juice? Squeeze Your Raspberry Pi By Overclocking\" href=\"http:\/\/www.makeuseof.com\/tag\/not-enough-juice-squeeze-your-raspberry-pi-by-overclocking\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>\u00a0quite a bit during my experience of dealing with Pi overclocking.<\/p>\n<p>Basically, I used raspy-config, I explained how I installed the configuration tool on Kali <a title=\"Pi Time!\" href=\"http:\/\/somethingk.com\/main\/?p=435\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Command:<\/p>\n<pre>raspi-config<\/pre>\n<p>This will open up the Raspbian\u00a0configuration menu.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/somethingk.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Screen-Shot-2014-02-11-at-9.08.07-PM.png\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-805\" alt=\"Screen Shot 2014-02-11 at 9.08.07 PM\" src=\"http:\/\/somethingk.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Screen-Shot-2014-02-11-at-9.08.07-PM-300x190.png\" width=\"300\" height=\"190\" srcset=\"https:\/\/somethingk.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Screen-Shot-2014-02-11-at-9.08.07-PM-300x190.png 300w, https:\/\/somethingk.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Screen-Shot-2014-02-11-at-9.08.07-PM.png 567w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>From the menu, select overclocking and choose your desired setting. Take the warning seriously, overclocking your system can shorten its life or even prevent the thing from starting up.
